Marco Magalhaes, DDS, MSc, PhD, FRCD(C)
Dr. Marco Magalhaes is a clinician-scientist with advanced training in oral pathology, oral medicine and cancer cell biology research. Dr. Magalhaes graduated as doctor of dental surgery (DDS) from the Federal University of Goias, Brazil in 2005 and received his PhD in cell biology at the University of Toronto in 2009. He then completed a 2.5-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Cancer Centre and returned to the University of Toronto to complete his residency in Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine. He joined the Faculty of Dentistry cross-appointed to Laboratory Medicine and Pathology as an Assistant Professor in July 2015. He is an oral pathologist at the Toronto Oral Pathology Service and staff oral pathologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Dr. Magalhaes is the principal investigator of the Cancer Invasion and Metastasis laboratory (CIMlab) at the Faculty of Dentistry, focusing on cancer cell biology, particularly in mechanisms of invadopodia-dependent cancer cell invasion. His publications have received over 1200 citations. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.
