Christel M Haberland DDS, MS

Chair

Christel Haberland was born in Guatemala City Guatemala, where she attended Dental school at Universidad Francisco Marroquin. She completed a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology with an MS degree at The Ohio State University in 1998 and stayed on to obtain her US dental degree. She taught Oral Pathology as an Assistant Professor at Temple University from 2000-2002. She later completed a residency in Pediatric Dentistry at Yale-New Haven Hospital from 2007-2009, where she remained as Faculty. In 2012 she established an Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Biopsy Service in the Department of Pathology, Yale School of Medicine. She became the Program Director for the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program in 2015. Since September 2020, she has been the Chair of Pediatric Dentistry at the Medical University of South Carolina with a joint appointment in the division of Oral Pathology. She has presented numerous abstracts at AAOMP and has served on the education committee from 2010-2014 and as a Councilor 2018-2021. She is on the editorial board for Pediatric Dentistry, Journal of Dentistry for Children, and Head and Neck Pathology. She is Board Certified in both Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Pediatric Dentistry. Her interests are in pediatric oral pathology, and she has lectured nationally on this topic.
