Course Description (3 Credit Hours)

This session will explore a range of neoplastic and benign lymphoid lesions and mimics of the head and neck region that can cause diagnostic dilemmas. An in-depth discussion will focus on the clinicopathologic aspects and results of ancillary studies of each case. A diagnostic approach to these challenging cases and how to avoid diagnostic pitfalls.

Objectives of course:

The major objective is to provide knowledge to allow participants to be able to arrive at the correct diagnosis and/or generate an appropriate differential diagnosis. It is hoped that the knowledge acquired at this course will be useful for improving patient care.

  1.  Apply morphological criteria to the diagnoses of lymphoid lesions of the head and neck
  2.  Generate clinically relevant differential diagnosis for neoplastic and inflammatory lymphoid conditions
  3.   Approach the diagnosis of challenging lymphoid lesions in a systematic manner
  4.   Utilize appropriate ancillary studies for diagnosis
  5.   Use the current international classification system for lymphoid neoplasms
